Town of Nanticoke

Regular Meeting 4/17/07

7 p.m.

 

Present:  Supervisor Ellis, Councilmen, Benjamin, Baker, Forkey, Absent: Whittaker

Also: Brianna & Tonya Ellis, JoAnn Smith, Tom & Leona Morrison.

 

Open to public:  Mr. & Mrs. Morrison asked about deeding over parcel of land to their daughter who has lived on the land since 1981.  There is a separate septic and well on that parcel.  They want to sell their property and want to make sure she has a place to keep her mobile home.  They were referred to the planning board to see if they would need a variance or not.

 

Joanne Smith being part of the Beautification Group was asking if the Town Hwy. dept. could help to put up flags for them as most of the members are in there70’s and above.  She mentioned that the Town of Maine’s hwy. has a cherry picker they help to put up flags with.

They have permission to use the poles from NYSEG. ( Supervisor wants copy of letter) They will check with the highway dept. about this matter.  (Check with Attorney to see if we need a waiver)

We do hereby approve the minutes of the March meeting as presented.  4 ayes 1 absent

 

No Supervisors report this month.

 

Small Cities Block Grant:

Motion by Forkey, Seconded by Baker, Carried

We do hereby pass the resolution as read to adopt April, 207 as Fair Housing Month. 

Vote: Baker, Forkey, Benjamin, Forkey, ayes

1 absent

 

On the Besanson property and being able to find a mobile home for less than the cost of the repairs was not feasible.

Motion by Benjamin, Seconded by
Forkey, Carried

We do hereby approve the repairs to be done on the Besanson Mobile home as presented at the March meeting.  Vote: Baker, Forkey, Benjamin, Ellis, Ayes 1 absent

The following properties were approved for repair under the Grant with a Motion by Forkey, Seconded by Benjamin, Carried

1-Glenn Crowningshield in the amount of 13, 78.00

2- Robert Bruce in the amount of $21,318.00.

Vote: Baker, Forkey, Benjamin, Ellis

4 ayes 1 absent

 

Mr. Baker asked where we stand as far as the balance of the funding?  Mr. Ellis will check the funds for the next meeting.

Cris Smith is not eligible for the grant due to the re-investigation of the application and due to conflict of interest due to working full time now for the town.

 

The board discussed a sex offender’s law from the Town of Chenango. . It will restrict the movement of them around schools, parks etc.

 

Broome County Association of Towns will be holding Lobby Day on April 23, 2007.

 

Old Business:   The Deferred Compensation through NYS if in place.  Anyone wishing to have put into the plan (like a 401K) may.

 

 

A discussion was held on the health insurance after turning 65 such as Gene Fralick.  He will get the health insurance as it is and also still receive the pool in the amount of $400.00.
